CANON EOS REBEL T1i FOR STARTERS AND SAVERS!

In 2009,Canon released another addition to their consumer SLR line – the 15.1 megapixel Canon EOS Rebel T1i. Less than 18 months into the release of the XS,and they still keep them coming and you, wanting. Clearly, product cycles have become shorter and shorter in the digital SLR realm. At the top of the Rebel Line, this product challenges the Nikon D90 with its ability to take videos.

THE FEATURES AND QUICK REVIEWS

The most important feature on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i,for most photographers,is the still image quality at 15.1 megapixels. Though the new HD movie mode comes in as a superb bonus, many have still kept into consideration that as one approaches higher resolution, you still need to ensure that the lens on your SLR can resolve that much detail. Unfortunately, the 18-55 mm IS lens included is functional, but the high resolution shows the acceptable but not so outstanding quality of the lens.  Apparently, the photos don’t appear crisp, but rather soft even when taken at the proper focus. On a better note, however,it appears that the only products that come near to the EOS Rebel T1i’s price point is the Canon EOS 50D or the Pentax K-7.But both of these models are still considerably more expensive at retail and are constructed more ruggedly, especially the Pentax which has a die-cast body and a fairly large environmental sealing. So bottom line is,the Canon EOS Rebel T1i‘s quality is still amazing for its price with the skin tones, colors and textures reproduced accurately.

The new DIGIC 4 processor on this one handles the larger 4,752 x 3,168 at a slightly reduced speed but it appears to process and/or save the 15 megapixel images in the same time than the DIGIC III processor on the XSi.  And whether you’re in a Basic or Creative Zone, this allows you to capture RAW images in all of the Canon T1i‘s modes. It was also noticed by some users that the DIGIC 4 and the sensor, produces less overall noise compared to its forerunners,at higher ISOs.

The Canon T1i‘s 3-inch,920,000 pixel LCD screen gives a noticeably sharper onscreen image even in bright sunlight, making it great for focusing and verifying sharpness after capturing. And the Canon T1 is the first Rebel to have such a high-resolution screen. The Canon XSi SLR,also has a 3″LCD,but with only 230,000 pixels.

There are more features that come with the Canon T1i which are from the 50D like, the Peripheral Illumination Correction and multiple noise reduction settings. It also has the Auto Lighting Optimizer,Highlight Tone Priority and the Creative Auto which is a unique mode which efforts to give creative control even to the novice shooter.

Then there’s the movie mode, with its highest complete HD resolution being 720p at 30fps,which turns out clean, smooth and good enough but for the very keen consumers. It is also able to capture 1080p videos but, only at 20fps which is not really fully at par with the usual standard. So that sticker on the box is obviously a marketing strategy.  You can manually focus or autofocus thru contrast detect by using the Canon T1i‘s rear AE/AFLock button. There are, however, minor setbacks that concern its video recording capabilities which are, that the audio is recorded in mono and that there is no input for an external microphone. But despite that, this should not put you off, since this is an SLR camera,NOT a video camera.

And on with the lenses, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i is compatible with EF and EF-S lenses and uses SD/SDHC cards,Eye-Fi wireless cards. It has the same battery and battery grip as the XSI.

In conclusion, the Canon EOS Rebel T1i is a tad bit on the light end but it does feel solidly constructed. But considering the price, finding any digital SLR with all the Canon EOS Rebel T1i‘s capabilities would be a tough task. This camera is effective enough for those new to photography to learn easily from and at the same time,it is also flexible and configurable enough for advanced amateurs. This camera is well built, easy to use and efficiently designed.
